Ending your mobile plan contract? Planning to switch to a cheaper provider? If you're locked into your current operator, this guide provides a proven sample letter to terminate your plan and prevent automatic renewal, known as tacit renewal in France.
Tacit renewal lets your mobile operator automatically extend your contract without prior notice—no letter or call required. At the end of your term, it renews for the same duration.
Under Article L. 121-84-3 of the French Consumer Code, your provider must notify you of your remaining commitment period and termination rights between one and three months before expiry (even if in fine print). This helps you avoid unintended extensions.
If they fail to comply, Article L. 136-1 of the Consumer Code allows you to cancel anytime without extra fees.
Like our other termination templates, include your contact details, phone number, and contract number at the top left, with the operator's cancellation service address at top right. Send via registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt.

I have also canceled direct debits per Article 2004 of the Civil Code, but remain available to settle any due amounts via the closure invoice.
