While no one knows for certain what lies beyond death, one innovative concept offers a poetic continuation of life: turning your remains into a thriving tree.
Catalan designer Gérard Moliné has created the Bios Urn, a fully biodegradable funeral urn designed to nourish a young tree sapling with the deceased's ashes.
His vision? Replace traditional graves with living trees in cemeteries and beyond.

Inspired by shifting societal trends, Moliné noted our enduring desire to honor loved ones amid changing funeral practices. Cremation is overtaking burial due to declining religious influence, high costs, and a desire for less somber memorials.

Cemeteries are evolving, with columbariums replacing tombs. In response, Moliné's "life after life" slogan introduces the Bios Urn, enabling ashes to fuel a tree's growth—a powerful symbol of renewal.

The Bios Urn pairs with the Bios Incube, a pot-like incubator that tracks tree growth via a companion mobile app. Compact and versatile, it suits apartments, homes, or gardens.

Here's how it works: Place the urn in the Bios Incube. Soil sensors monitor environmental conditions, soil quality, and moisture. Simply add water, connect the app, and watch the tree flourish.
Echoing the biblical "dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return" (Genesis 3:19), this urn embodies a return to nature.

Beyond the faithful, it resonates with eco-conscious individuals seeking a final act for the planet. Nature lovers have embraced the idea: A Kickstarter campaign raised nearly €74,000 from 356 backers.
